1. The Scabies Mite
Once a Scabies mite infests the human body, it leads to intense itching that gets worse in the night. It is the females who are more dangerous than the males. They are almost 0.4mm in size and experts in tunneling underneath the skin to lay eggs. The mites can only crawl and dig; they are incapable of jumping or flying. They go dormant at temperatures below 20 degrees, and can stay like that for a long time.
The first symptoms that an infected person notices are a pimple like rash with intense itching. The itching is commonly seen near the wrists, elbows, shoulder blades and arm pits. The itching worsens in the night and leads to sores that get infected by bacteria.
3. When will you first find out that you’re infected?
From the time a person gets infected, it might take up to four weeks for the first signs to show. For a first timer, it might take this long, but for someone who was infected earlier, the symptoms just take a day or so.
Just keep in mind that in some rare cases, people notice the first visible signs after several months. Also, many people simply fail to recognize the signs correctly for many weeks at a stretch until the itching sensations become unbearable.
